My Journey

I didn’t create Meaningful Ecuador as a business idea or a travel product. It grew slowly, out of time spent in Ecuador and out of a growing discomfort with how travel and volunteering are often framed.

Like many people, I was drawn to the idea of “helping” abroad. But the longer I stayed, the more I realized that meaningful experiences don’t come from arriving with answers or fixed expectations. They come from listening, building relationships, and allowing yourself to be changed by the place and the people you’re with.

Ecuador taught me to slow down. To pay attention. To notice daily rhythms, small gestures, and quiet moments that don’t fit neatly into itineraries or volunteer packages. I began to see how easily good intentions can turn into transactions — and how rare it is to find spaces that prioritize humility, mutual exchange, and presence.

Meaningful Ecuador exists because I wanted to create something different. Not a placement factory, not a checklist of projects, and not a promise of transformation. Instead, this is an invitation to experience Ecuador with care and respect — to show up willing to learn, to listen, and to engage honestly with the people and communities you encounter.

This site reflects my own journey: moving away from urgency and outcomes, and toward relationship and understanding. Whether you come to volunteer, travel slowly, or simply learn more about Ecuador, my hope is that this space helps you approach the experience with openness and intention.

Meaningful Ecuador isn’t about doing more. It’s about being present — and allowing the experience to unfold.

This shaped my approach to meaningful travel.
